Solution For Cloud Data Center Interconnect

Solution For Cloud Data Center Interconnect

The goal of a cloud data center optical connectivity solution is to connect data centers with high-speed, high-capacity, and effective optical networking technologies. The required bandwidth is provided by optical interconnects to satisfy the requirements of contemporary cloud services and applications.

  • Product Introduction

The infrastructure of a cloud computing network is a cloud data center. The growth of the cloud computing industry has accelerated the development of super data centers. Servers and switches make up the majority of the cloud infrastructure. The connection is made using optical fiber cables, optical transceivers, active optical cables, and direct connection cables. Single-mode optical transceivers will be used more frequently as a result of the large-scale utilization of cloud data centers and the requirements for transmission distance.

The rapid expansion of traffic in the cloud data center is causing optical transceivers' data rates to improve and accelerate. From 10g to 40g, it takes 5 years; from 40g to 100g, 4 years; and from 100g to 400g, 3 years. Future data centers will need to do extensive internal operations on any data exported, especially with the growth of AI, VR/AR, UHD video, and other exports. The 100g optical transceiver market is expanding quickly due to the choppy East-West data center movement and the flattened data center architecture.

The standard three-layer data center's primary data flow direction is from top to bottom or from south to north, but the planar ridge leaf data center's primary data flow direction is from east to west.

Solution Features

High Bandwidth and Speed

Optical interconnects offer extremely high data transmission rates, often in the range of terabits per second (Tbps).

Long Reach

Optical signals can travel long distances without significant degradation. It is valuable for connecting data centers located in different cities or regions, allowing for efficient data replication, disaster recovery, and geographical load balancing.

Lower power consumption

The power consumption of the data center is very large. The lower power consumption is to save energy and ensure better heat dissipation. Because the backplane of the data center is full of optical transceivers, if the heat dissipation problem is not properly solved, the performance and density of optical transceivers will be affected.

Secure Data Transmission

Optical signals are inherently difficult to intercept, providing a level of security against eavesdropping. Encryption can also be applied to enhance data security during transmission.

Support for Cloud Bursting

Optical interconnects can facilitate cloud bursting, where additional computing resources are seamlessly extended from one data center to another during periods of high demand.

Easy Integration with Cloud Services

Optical interconnect solutions can be integrated with cloud service providers' offerings, allowing for dedicated high-speed connections to cloud resources, ensuring predictable and optimized performance.

Centralized Management and Monitoring

Modern optical interconnect solutions often come with management tools that allow centralized control, monitoring, and configuration of the interconnection network.

Above is an example of an optical transceiver and AOC application for data center optical interconnection. The backbone core, edge core, and Tor (rack top) components make up the network architecture of a cloud data center. The server network card and tor access switch are connected using 10g SFP + AOC. Tor access switch and edge core switch are connected via a 40g qsfp + Sr4 optical transceiver and MTP/MPO cable. Edge core switches and backbone core switches are connected using duplex LC cable and a 100g qsfp28 cwdm4 optical transceiver.

From 10g to 25g and subsequently from 25g to 100g is the current trend in increasing the port bandwidth of cloud data centers. For data centers, it can offer AOC products and 10g to 100g modules.
