It employs a single, powerful optical wavelength to transmit data at a rapid rate of 400 Gbps. This technology maximizes the utilization of existing fiber-optic infrastructure, enabling high-capacity data transfer over relatively short to medium distances.

Network operators can eliminate the intermediate transponder/muxponder equipment layer by directly connecting Coherent's high transmit output power 400G QSFP-DD-DCO transceivers to their switches or routers. This immediately lowers network operators' capital costs. Even more significant, however, are the significant cost savings in operational expenses: thanks to the IP-over-DWDM architecture made possible by the Coherent QSFP-DD-DCO, less space is required to be rented for central offices or co-location facilities, less energy is consumed overall, less cooling is needed, and there are simply fewer network components to be planned, set up, managed, and maintained.
