Introduction to Optical Communication and Optical Network Technology

Introduction to Optical Communication and Optical Network Technology :

Optical communication technology is a kind of communication mode using light wave as transmission medium.

Common optical communications include:

Atmospheric laser communication: the information is transmitted along the atmosphere with the laser beam as the carrier. It does not need to lay lines, the equipment is light, convenient for mobility, good confidentiality, large amount of information transmission, and can transmit voice, data, images and other information. Atmospheric laser communication is easily affected by climate and external environment, and is generally used for line of sight communication between rivers, lakes, valleys, desert areas and islands.

Optical fiber communication: It is a kind of wired communication, and the light wave is transmitted along the optical fiber. The light source can be a laser (also called a semiconductor laser diode) or a light emitting diode. Optical fiber communication has small attenuation, large capacity, no external interference, and good confidentiality, which can be used for high-capacity national defense trunk line communication and field operations.

Optical fiber has three low loss windows: 850nm, 1310nm, 1550nm.

Blue green optical communication:

It is a laser with a wavelength between blue light and green light, transmitting information in seawater

It is a better underwater communication method at present.

Infrared communication:

It is a communication mode using infrared ray (wavelength 300~0.76 μ m) to transmit information. Transmissible

Chongqing language, text, data, images and other information are suitable for inter island, close distance remote control, aircraft internal communication, etc. Its communication capacity is large, confidentiality is strong, anti electromagnetic interference performance is good, equipment structure is simple, small size, light weight, low price. However, transmission in the atmospheric channel is vulnerable to climate impact, and the transmission distance is 4000 meters.

Ultraviolet communication:

It is a communication mode using ultraviolet ray (wavelength 0.39~60 x 10 μ m) to transmit information.

Its basic principle is similar to that of infrared communication, which belongs to non laser communication.
