General Administration Of Customs Shows Import And Export Data Of Integrated Circuits in The First Quarter

Apr 18, 2023|

According to data released by the General Administration of Customs, from January to March, China imported 108.2 billion integrated circuits, a year-on-year decrease of 22.9%. Imports totaled US$78.5 billion, down 26.7% from US$107.1 billion in the same period last year. China's IC exports fell by 13.5% year-on-year to 60.9 billion pieces, and total exports fell by 17.6% year-on-year.

The total value of chip imports fell 26.7 percent to $78.5 billion from $107.1 billion last year, customs data showed. Imports fell sharply, reflecting a drop in chip prices this year amid a supply glut and a slowing global economy.

China's total chip imports fell 9.6% year-on-year to 140.3 billion ICs in the first three months of 2022, compared with a 14.6% increase in total value a year ago amid rising prices.

The latest trade data reflects how geopolitical tensions and increased U.S. sanctions on China are affecting semiconductor deals between China and the rest of the world.

However, it is worth noting that the import and export volume of China's integrated circuits in March this year rebounded slightly compared with the previous two months, and the import and export volume in January and February fell by 26.5% and 20.9% year-on-year respectively. Since March, there seems to be signs of bottoming out in China.
