10Gbit per seconds FTTH Penetration Rate Will Reach 23 Pesent in 2030

LightCounting (LC) released a research report on the 2022 Ultra Wideband Forum. The 8th Ultra-Broadband Forum (UBBF) in 2022 will be held in Bangkok, Thailand from October 27 to 28, 2022.

In his keynote address, Mr. AM. Thnapant Raicharoen, Commissioner of the Office of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), shared his plan to expand the Internet to 5,000 villages across Thailand to reduce the digital divide. NBTC has announced a 5-year "Digital Master Plan" that includes expanding connectivity in rural areas, as well as an urban plan: "Gigabit City = Full Fiber + 5G". The plan aims to transform Thailand into an "ASEAN Digital Hub" and accelerate the digital transformation of the Thai economy.

Luis Jorge Romero, director of ETSI (European Telecommunication Standardization Institute), cited data from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), saying that for every 10% increase in broadband penetration, labor productivity will increase by 1.5%. OECD is an organization of developed countries, but if APEC conducts a similar study, labor productivity growth may reach 5% or even higher. APEC countries don't have the time or resources to conduct such studies, but they know the answers, so they are busy deploying broadband.

A digital transformation strategy is not unique, but implementing it in Thailand may encounter less resistance. The country is open to business from any country including China and the US. The two superpowers, China and the US, are actively investing in Thailand. China's millennia-old trade with Thailand has proven to be beneficial to both countries, but this is the latest strategy of the US as it begins to decouple from China. Many U.S. companies are now shifting manufacturing from China to Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, and other APEC countries that may be the lucky winners of a new Cold War.

Dr. David Wang, Executive Director of Huawei's Board of Directors and Chairman of the ICT Infrastructure Management Committee, proposed the prediction of implementing 1Gbit/s services by deploying 10G PON and deploying 50G PON to support 10Gbit/s services, as shown in the figure below. By 2025, the 1Gbit/s FTTH penetration rate will be about 26%, and the 10Gbit/s FTTH penetration rate will be about 1%. By 2030, the 1Gbit/s FTTH penetration rate will reach 55%, and the 10Gbit/s FTTH penetration rate will reach 23% %, when the total FTTH penetration rate will reach 91%.
