What is WDM
May 15, 2023| Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) means in the same optical fiber, two or more optical wavelength signals are transmitted through different optical channels at the same time.

advantage:
1. The channel utilization rate is improved, and multiple optical signals can be transmitted through the same optical fiber, making full use of the bandwidth resources of the optical fiber;
2. The capacity of optical fiber transmission is increased to meet the needs of large-capacity data transmission;
3. Reduced system cost, compared with other technologies, the cost of WDM technology is lower;
4. Increased the security of the optical signal during transmission, because multiple channels are isolated and will not interfere with each other.
Adaptation:
1. It is suitable for high-speed data transmission. When the data transmission volume is large and the bandwidth needs to be increased, WDM technology is a better choice;
2. Adapt to the communication requirements of networking in the optical communication system, and can realize the communication between multiple networks;
3. Adapt to the data center, and can meet the data transmission requirements inside the data center and between computer rooms.
